Anthropological Crossroads
Field work is omnipresent but ever more critics' voices are getting louder and louder. But what does it actually mean to conduct field research? What challenges am I confronted with? How do I deal with them? How do you deal with all the information gathered in field work, what is worked on further and what is left behind? How do these decision-making processes affect the research and which aspects are made invisible in the process? How do I make sure to be mindful of all involved parties? How do I decide what to include in my published work?
This event is co-organised by the student associations (FGs) Cultural Anthropology and Social Anthropology and was developed based on a previous course. The invited guests Theres Inauen (Cultural Anthropology) and Zainabu Jallo (Social Anthropology) are teaching at University of Basel. Together with members of the student body they will embark on a moderated discussion about what happens behind the scenes, the challenges, the decision making and the ethics in anthropological fieldwork. This event is organized by students for all who are interested to get more knowledge about the practical side of field work. We encourage and invite all attendees to share their personal knowledge and experience.
